    Question Maxillaria Tenuifolia, dead roots?

Hello guys! I bought a maxillaria tenuifolia recently. I don't have much knowledge about this specific orchid, I did some research right after buying it. Found out that the plant likes lots of water and light, and can stand more heat than the usual orchids. So I started to repot it from its super tight and packed moss and I got pretty confused when I saw these roots.. I did see online tht the roots look different and dead at first, do these look normal to you guys? I figure somebody might be more familiar with this kind of orchid. I was unsure on what media to use so I repotted it in a basket with sphagnum moss since I read that it needed to be more wet than the usual orchids, but I didn't put it super tight. I could include a picture later on of I repotted.

    Hi Everyone,
I just bought 2 coconut orchids as well. They are bagged babies from Better-Gro. They are so exotic. They are in small plastic containers, moss is growing on top of the soil, and they smell pretty yucky (like mildew). I know I need to repot, but what is the best medium to grow them in? I am having trouble getting answers on this Orchid. Can someone help me?
    Thanks,
    Karen
