hoping this is a mini phal flower spike

this is one of the mini phals i mounted 1 month ago and what greeted me yesterday when i went to say hello was what i think may be a flower spike what do you think a bit of an odd place for a root i know its a bit small but its the bright green spot near the old flower spike but it is one leaf above it

coming from the location on the plant that it is, I would say that it is a new root. A flower spike would be coming out closer to the plants crown using the old spike as a starting point

The focus isn't sharp enough to be sure, but if the tip is smooth it is probably a root. The tip if a new spike looks more like a mitten or fist.

If I remember right (from my Austrailian friend Lynn) your seasons are opposite of ours. It should be too warm where you are for spiking as Phals are cool climate bloomers. Your conditions are perfect however for new leaf development and roots. This Phal seems to be doing both so at least it favors its conditions.

Kim I live in the Caribbean islands and we have only two seasons here wet and dry, we are currently going into dry season, I have six phals that are flowering and have been doing that since year before last November or so when we get rain, one in particular has three sets of flowers and I noticed today that there are some more little blooms coming out from the present spikes, maybe they adapt to this weather the two photos I have posted here show how I have mounted them and because they grow in the natural like that, they are continuously in bloom, I use a weak solution of Epsom salts and 20/20/20 about a half teaspoon each in a gallon of water every other week, I rarely have to bother about insects and fungus but I use fungicide and insecticide sometimes still, just thought I would share

here in aus phals can do anything they like doesn't matter what the season they throw spikes, roots and leaves (a bit like wombats) all at once I have them doing everything at the moment

Maggs-I know what you mean about two seasons. Usually we get two.... summer and winter(ish). With the anomolies in weather lately Florida is experiencing its first spring-like temps in a long time, lol. Just feels weird since its January.

Kharma- ooooooooo prettttty I am a sucker for the tip blush look or any blush look to be exact so I would have to say the white is my fave. But i love the purple too. Heck.... the purpose of being an addict is I can love them all
