Exciting stuff going on here Chris. All of it! I may need to try this water culture that you and Karin are speaking of. I need to do some research.

Chris, I admire your indoor orchid display! Everyone's pictures are very inspirational! How do you keep the humidity up in your home in the winter months? We heat with a European Masonry Stove, so I would like some input on this. Also, your glasss shelves, does your hardware store carry and cut the glass for you? Lastly, I see your orchids along with everyone else's growing in all different kinds of different pots-, they all don't need to be in the transparent/translucent pots for their roots?
Forgive me for commenting on older posts and pictures, being new here, I have been reading and learning so much from past posts. Now I'm brave enough to inquire.

Thank you Marlene! I got a new furnace a couple of years ago that has a humidifier built in. I pretty much set the humidity to whatever I want short of peeling the wall and rotting the furniture. I keep it around 70% upstairs. Summer is a problem when the AC comes on. That dries the air very efficiently. The glass shelves all came from yard sales. I think I spent $6 on all of them. I pretty much grow anything that is not mounted in clay or plastic baskets. I tried growing in clear pots for a while but didn't like the algae growing to the point that I couldn't see the roots. I joined this forum about 3 years ago and have learned more here then the previous three years, all the books I've read and all of the rest of the online content available combined. There is a lot of very confusing and misleading information out there!
Thank you Chris for your response. Yours and everyone's photos & posts that are shared are both very insightful and inspiring!
