Well, depending on the type it does look like it is trying to bloom. Many of the bifoliate types crossed with epidendrums with many small blooms look like when they are ready to crank out some flowers.

This Cattleya produced the new leaves at the top over a month ago. However, I don't see a bud ready to emerge. Is it likely to bloom or has something gone awry? Thanks!

The pseudobulb looks nice and fat. That means you are one step ahead of me!
Just relax and wait.the plant look healthy for me.
