Default Phal is spiking, tip of spike broken by puppy nose

    Hey everyone!

I know this has been discussed, and I have looked for the answer; but, I will ask again, and hopefully this will get filed in the right place for others.

I have a Phal that just started a spike, the spike is barely a 1/4 inch - all spikes have a very fragile end in the beginning...this Phal was on the bottom shelf directly in the way of a curious puppy nose....

Will the spike recover, keep growing, and produce flowers?

Thanks for answering or directing me to the correct thread...

It is likely, but not certain, that the spike will re-grow from a node near its base, or another spike will form above the next leaf. The plant was triggered to bloom. If it is healthy it should keep trying. The replacement spike may not end up being quite as big as the original would have been. Continue to give the plant normal good care.

If the spike was only 1/4 inch long, it is less likely to continue to grow from that particular spike. You will have to wait and see. It is also possible the plant could put out another spike from a different location.
