A species which I find interesting - Prosthechea elisae. I have grown this up to have four leads, and these are the first flowers . About 3cm dia, and as thick as orange peel ! IOSPE says up to 20 flowers, but I see that it has been awarded a few times with far fewer - as few as 4 or 5 per spike . So maybe Jay is being a bit optimistic, or is ill informed, or maybe it is a variable species. Hopefully the other three leads will get up to flowering size on the next growths , since they are only slightly smaller than the one now flowering. Seems to be quite long lasting,m as might be expected from the thick petals.
Great flowers and to quote you, they look "as tough as old boots"
