Very interesting comments and explanations about peloricism here ! I continue to learn about orchids !.
I had thought that it was applicable to plants having in effect three lips, instead of one lip and two sepals ; it had also occurred to me that such a flower is extremely similar to some iris flowers - which have three sepals with fancy crests etc ( Great bearded iris - well known plant in Northern Europe - I grow lots in my garden) and one way of arriving at an orchid would be a mutation where two of these lost their special bits - not the way orchids originated perhaps, but who knows ( have we any viewers who were around 20 million years ago ? )
Cool bloom; interesting thread.
