    Post Dendrobium kingianum in Lava rock

    I just ordered a small Dendrobium kingianum ---- Vendor information removed - see FAQs on Posting ---- and it come wrapped in moss I want to transplant it into a 2" net pot with 90% lava rock and 10 % fir bark will this work
    I have a place to grow it that gets bright light all day but around 1/2 hour in the evening of sun
    will that work
    I have no Orchid fertilizer and know I don't need any till spring but what would work best with this type of Orchid I was thinking of getting msu ro orchid fert
    online
    locally I can only find grow more

    kingianum requires bright light and dry and cool winter rest to flower. I think the growth would have matured and you can fertilize after new growth in spring. if possible share a picture of the plant

    I grow some plants of kingianum in S/H , using baked clay pebbles as the medium, and of course standing permanently in water/nutrient, for the bottom ½ inch of the pot. They grow very well like that, and sometimes I leave them there over the winter, if they are not big enough to give a good display of flowers. I would imagine that tufa ( lava rock) would be OK, but the pH of the medium is important and that would need to be checked.
