Brassovola?

This post is threefold. First of course I want to share my orchid, secondly can someone give me the exact identification and thirdly, should I repot this and if so, how do I get it out of the wooden basket lol!

Definitely Brassavola, probably Brassavola nodosa, or maybe one of the B. nodosa hybrids. If you plan to maintain it in a basket it doesn't need to be reported right now. If you do, easiest to just buy a big enough basket to slip it in old basket and all, no new media needed. If you want to remove it from the basket, wait until it is done blooming, and has new growth coming. You should be able to see wires or bolts holding the wooden slats of the basket together. Remove those and you should be able to begin to disassemble the basket to get it out. Cutting some roots at that point is probably inevitable. A plant this large could easily be divided too.

Thank you, Kirk. Yes, I'll wait until it finishing blooming and then decide. It's growing all over almost in a ball!

Let it grow into a ball! It will look magnificent when it blooms oh and have you sniffed the flowers in the evening!

I would agree with Kirk on the species as a friend of mine has one in bloom now and it looks the same as his. I would agree with Parry and say leave it as it is, the plant will grow all around the basket and when fully covered it will look awesome! If you want to repot then put into a much larger basket, trying to take it out of the basket can be a real pain!
