    Smile Finally Dendrobium spectabile..

This is a plant I got three years ago labeled as Den. chrysotoxum. It tried to flower last year but had to move it when it was just starting to spike and only one flower opened. There were four spikes starting this year but two withered. So, two spikes with 22 flowers. The brown and yellow spotting on the older leaves is a fungal attack . Hoping this problem has been solved. Didn't know this plant was so heavily scented. Very nice and fills the kitchen and dining room. I think I'm getting better at this orchid growing thing.

Very pretty! Such a wild looking bloom!

I just found 3 nubs of spike beginnings on mine today. In the past 2 years, this was the 3rd december I have had it, it had begun spiking in early December. But not this year. It has lived the last 2 years in a local orchid GH in Louisville Colorado.

It took mine 6 years before I got the first blooms, so 3 years is not that bad. I have mine where it gets direct sunlight from around noon till the sun goes down. Nicely done Chris, great pictures!

    Karin-
This orchid can grow to 14 feet tall when fully mature and has the room. I have to keep mine off-site in a GH due to its size and future potential size. Google for it and you will see some amazing Den spectabiles!

Oh! Well, maybe I'll just enjoy them vicariously through photos. I am plumb out of room for more orchids until summer.
