    Cool Paphiopedilum venustum

We have this pretty slipper orchid in bloom and I snapped these two photos with my phone this morning. Enjoy.

Beautiful Happy Plant! I have one paph. Got it off the clearance table and I'm a little afraid of it.

It seems to do well with water once a week and fertilize every two to three weeks. I grow ours in red wood bark with sponge rock, charcoal, and medium coconut husk chunks. Good luck with yours!

Thank you Bruce, I'll try that. In truth, got it 3 months ago and haven't even checked to see what it is growing in.

I have one in bud that is a hybrid with venustrum as a parent. I really enjoyed seeing its parent in bloom!

As for being afraid of Paphs... I've done pretty well with them on the whole (have only had a couple though, just getting my feet wet there). Mine have required spraying for fungus, but then do fine. I haven't really seen new roots on my oldest one in the three years I've had it, yup, it scares me! However, it has several fans and blooms every year, it just doesn't grow roots. Mostly I'm afraid to repot them. I have one I bought last spring that is almost open too, gorgeous little things though.
