    Default Root Colors

Is there any significance to the roots being dark purple versus green. Both examples here are new root growth on two different vanda types. Just curious-trying to expand my knowledge.

Roots look very healthy Sheryl. From what I know, darker (Purple) root tips indicate flowers of a darker shade (Red/orange/maroon/etc) and green/yellow root tips indicate a lighter shade (white/yellow/green/peach) etc

From my experience, and I could be wrong, my vandas with darker roots usually are getting more direct sun. I usually am very happy to see nice green root tips and get a less happy when iI see them darken. Were the darker roots once green? I could be completely wrong in my whole theory. So, if dark roots make no difference I am stressing over nothing and would be glad to hear about it.

I can't say I know about full sized Vanda's but Neofinetia, now Vanda, do have at least 5 different root colors. And I do notice that light does bring the color out.

Thank you all for your input. I have them all in the same area with the same amount and time of direct sun exposure and light. The one with the dark purple root tips have always been that color and that vanda is a deep red. The one with green tips is an orange one. I am pleased that they have healthy root growth and was just curious about the different colors of root tips. Thank you again! I appreciate learning from you all.

Well. I learned something new. That's what is great about Orchid Talk. So, now I won't worry as much. I still prefer to see green.

Depends on the species! As long as they're not dehydrated white/brown, mushy brown or black, you're OK.
Your's look very healthy and nothing to worry about! Seems to love the environment you got it in! Congrats!
