Phal bellina/Phal schilleriana/Phal Vio Vio

PLUMERIAS ! LOL! When I first moved here in Kauai, I collected cuttings of just about every Plumeria I ran into. They're all along the roadways here. You're NOT suppose to pick the flowers off them because they beautify the streets, but I WASN'T picking the flowers ... LOL ... I was cutting off branches! Not the same huh?

Anywho, I wound up with around two dozen plumerias in pots but then I had to make a choice ... PLUMERIAS or ORCHIDS! A no brainer!

But I've kept my favorites: Celadine (white with yellow), Donald Angus (Red, sometimes with gold), Singapore Plumeria (large white, yellow) and my very favorite. Daisy Wilcox which is a pinkish white blend, but the flowers get large to about 4-5 inches depending on the size of the tree.

I guess with me the question is: Does it flower? Is it pretty? Does it smell good? I WANT IT!

So sounds like I would reason it out myself. One of my
Favorites around here is the banana shrub sometimes called the banana magnolia. Such a great scent of banana.

Sciencegal thanks. We will see how it goes. Hopefully this year won't be as bad as I've been told it can be. Prior to going to med school I was a science (physics and biology) teacher so I'm pretty resilient when it comes to paperwork and stuff.

The orchids came in today! They look pretty decent except for an aerial root that had the tip broken. Was shocked to see the Phal bellina and the Phal vio both in spike. Hopefully they aren't too shocked and will continue to grow. I will therefore put off the media change and leave then in spaghnum right now.

If there are no buds on the orchids, you can repot. Just be gentle with the roots. When we were a commercial business we would buy phals, paphs, and oncidiums in short spike by the box full and repot them all into medium that was clean and free of any possibility of rotting. Good luck and congratulations on the new orchids. I look forward to seeing the blooms when you share them here.

Hi Traci congratulation for your 3 in Medicine......for your info bellina is the most easiest to grow in lowland I do believe you can do it all the best.

Thank you Dr. Zain for the encouragement for both my third year and the bellina. So far so good. I know it's early in the spike process so we will see what it chooses to do. It has good light and it's pretty humid right now so hopefully all will go well.
