Cattleya bloom(s) on the way!

Very excited. So excited that I have not even waited for the blooms to appear!!! Have not had much luck at all with my Cattleyas, so this is looking very hopeful!! Look like lots of TINY blooms, I have absolutely NO IDEA what to expect, but it's coming along so quickly......will post pics when they actually BLOOM as I will need to ask someone to ID for me!!! I have had to clip the one leaf to it's buddy as the spike seems to be growing right into the back of the leaf....

Cool! Neither can I! I have doubts as to whether that is a Cattleya. Be careful whatever you decide to do with that leaf. That spike is very fragile at this stage. If you clip it back or stake it, that could come loose and release with enough force to snap the spike. Does giving your Cattleya more sun seem to have worked?

Curious to see what it will look like. I've never seen a Catt with bloom like that with all the little budllettes (for lack of a better word).
Perhaps many little flowers will emerge ?

Re: cutting off the leaf ... you could get a roll of green tie, a chop stick (or similar) and tie the leaf to one side so that it doesn't interfere with the bloom. JMO

Cannot wait for the bloom(s)...I WONDER what it is??? You don't think it's a Cattleya? Yes Chris, the better light has definitely made a difference to the plants - hopefully there are more blooms on the way, I lost some (aborted sheaths), I guess I moved them too late...what an exercise in time and patience!!!

Thanks for the advice, will make sure the leaf is staked securely, it would be SUCH a pity to lose this spike of 'budlettes'!!!

I'm pretty sure that it's a cattleya due to the leaf and the bulb structure.
Catt's are pretty tough little buggers. Here's a Hawaiian Passion Carmela that just opened up this morning.
I had to tie the back three leaves a week ago because they were in the way of the buds.

Just take your time and it will be OK to tie back.





Yikes! I spoke too soon!

I was just out in the yard and here's what I found.
Another Hawaiian Passion Carmela getting ready to bloom but ...WITH SEVERAL BUDDLETTES .. about a dozen.
I forgot this orchid did this ... ANOTHER SENIOR MOMENT!

I will not say this for sure but it reminds me of my Dendrobium speciosum when it first was in spike last year, unfortunately I don't have a picture of it but that spike reminds me of my speciosum, so do the PB's big and thick. It will be interesting to see what the outcome is.

Excited to see what blooms. I don't have a single cattleya. Not sure exactly why- maybe I'm nervous about opening up those floodgates

Flower structure does not look like Cattleya genus. I tend to agree with Jack. could be Dendrobium speciosum.

Could very well be, I've never seen one until I googled it today. WADAYAKNOW ! You learn something everyday ...LOL!
