Default Plants in Bloom (Paphs & Phrag)

    My fellow orchid fiends,

The Phrag Dick Clements is my first orchid plant I got to rebloom.

After killing off most of my orchids with lots of love and WATER, I knew Phrags and Paphs are my true calling. No death in this family group. Will take Julie's advice on transfering them to clay pots.

    Default Plants in Bloom (Phals)

    PIB Con't,

The 1st Phal pic, the flowers rebloomed on an old spike. After the dead flowers and node were removed, it put out 2 more spikes from the next 2 nodes below, thus maintaining balance on the overall proportion of the plant and its blooms. That plant has been in bloom for six months now minus 2 months to develop the 2 spikes from the old spike.

For the hilo Phals, I am still searching for a pure white lip. This is a CONTINOUS quest.

My Stuartiana is just a seedling so I have to get really close to take the pic.

The unbloomed plant is a Phal. Corning's Ruby. Corningiana 'Fernbrook' AM/AOS x Brother Precious Stones 'Blood Red'). Hope to be really really red.

    Default Plants in Bloom (Dens)

    PIB Con't,

Hate to hear the answer on my last Den. question that the growths are keikis and not spikes. But as long as it is alive, a success for me nevertheless.

The unbloomed Den. Blue FoxTail is my pride and joy. It made it through its 1st anniversary/season...alive. It is this plant that helped me overcame my phobias of Dendrobiums, Dianne can relate A great confidence builder for a newbie like me. Before they would all just ended up... dead, PERIOD. Life was not an option for them in that dungeon of a room they once called home.

I was told the blooms from one of the Den. is really red and I've been waiting for weeks to see what it looks like. When I first saw the color of the bloom opened earlier tonight, it was like... 'Oh my, now that's a deep red'.

I am now going through my Den. phase. Will definitely have more pics soon.

    Enjoy,
    Trung

All very nice! Don't you love this time of year?

The unblooming dend is very fat and happy! You've certainly turned the corner on that genus! I also love antelopes (your last pic).

    Thanks for posting!

You have quite a few of very nice plants there! I really like your spotted phals. What are their names?

    Hi A. Hoa,

The light spotted pink is Phal. (hilo Lip 'Sunrise x Vladimir's Harmony) and the darker spotted pink is Phal. Hilo Lip x Phal. Hilo Lip 'Mendenhall'.

Thanks for the compliments. It means a lot coming from a guru like you. I'm just glad I got to share them with everyone who wants to look at them. With the house I just moved into for the past 2 years, I have sunlight everywhere from the Eastern morning sun and all the windows on the West side. A row of east side windows connecting to another row of west side windows. It's a sun galore. Cool light, warm light, hot light, scorching light... I have a place for it.

The rooms suit all the low light plants, near full sun (all my Onc, Tolumnias, Mtta, Odbr, Brassia and the likes). The full sun area only has a few Dens. I have already purchased and placed a large baker's rack there. All I am missing are more plants for I am still reasearching my different orchid plants options (oh God how I truly love this dilema ==> what plant to buy...what plant to buy) and a way to raise the humidity level in there. So now I am just preparing the environment. Soon, all will be in order for I HAVE SEEN IT IN MY VISION.

It will be such a shame if I don't try to grow some Cattleya. I don't have a single plant but I am constantly in such for a must have Cattleya flower. I know after getting the 1st one, the rest is sure to follow.

Build it and they will come,
    Trung

    Trung,
    Thanks for the names.
Gee, that house of yours just makes your orchid addiction getting worse, eh! The way you described the windows makes me think maybe your house is a solarium! However, I wonder why you don't consider a 'real' solarium or something similar (a glass house) in the future to separate living quarters from the growing areas? As your collection grows, it will make it easier to water and fertilize them, as well as help with the insecticides spraying. Those insecticides smell so bad, nauseating!

    Cheers. Hoa.
