Curcuma amada

Also known as Curcuma mango when you cut the rhizomes then the raw mango will appear nice to make an Ulam for Malaysian dish. On top of that it's have so many effects on our body such as remove the gas from gastrointestinal tract also anti inflammatory and antioxidant. I like the flower especially the bracts purplish color very beautiful. The plant may reach more than a meter.

Very nice photos Zainal, Have not seen this species before. Our usual Curcuma longa is the 'kunyit' or tumeric. While in the Chitwan National Park in Nepal our guide showed us another Curcuma growing wild, which he called the 'white tumeric'. The plant looks exactly like the common tumeric but the rhizome is white in colour and smells exactly like the common yellow tumeric.

Very nice Dr.Zainal. We use this extensively in southern India. We make a delicious pickle that is usually taken for indigestion and related ailments. Mango ginger is pealed and then cut into small pieces and soaked in lemon juice with 1-2 finely chopped chillies.

Jack it is easy to grow from the rhizomes unfortunately the plant is huge and the biggest plant in Curcuma families.

Thanks Sriram for giving us another wonderful recipe which I can try later as the plant already huge just a matter of time for me to harvest. Here the same thing we cut into small pieces than add in to bean sprouts and fried coconut flesh the taste is so great.
