No, I don't belong to any society. Since I live outside of the city, it takes too much time for me to join and meet people. I learned to find info online, and that's how I found this forum.

I wonder how many orchidophiles there are in AOS offline as opposed to members of online communities?
I'm not an AOS member, cause I don't think I would get any benefit. I am, however a member of the ArOS (Arkansas Orchid Society) and, by extension, a member of SWROGA (Southwest Regional Orchid Growers Association). I'm also on the SWROGA conservation committee. I can make it to the SWROGA meetings, since there are only two a year, and they are all relatively close to home (well, closer than Florida is...).
I am a member but with the cost of membership for overseas its a little high. The magazine is generaly good and I get some good info out of it. Probably wont subscribe again. I was receiving the Awards Quarterly book as well but as soon as they went to CD I didn't continue after the subs ranout. This was the biggest stuff up the AOS has done IMO.
I have been a member since early 2004. I also get Orchid Digest which I believe has much more usable info for me. Mine is up for renewal next month and I don't intend to renew. The cost of a 2 year renewal would go a long way toward Orchidwiz, which I am considering.
I WILL renew my Orchid Digest, which I have had since late 2004. I find so often that I go back to the old issues for more info.
Marilyn
Marilyn, you will love Orchidwiz. I wish it wasn't so expensive, but it is a nice program.

Obviously living in New Zealand I voted No
BUT...
I am the President of the North Shore Orchid Society and a member of the New Zealand Orchid Society which both meet monthly in Auckland
Our membership fees are only NZ$20 & NZ$27 per annum and I find being able to chat with experienced growers face to face and listening to talks by guest speakers is a great help. Then there is the TRADING TABLE where members sell their duplicate or unwanted plants or a flask they have surplus plants from at real bargain prices. You soon recoup your membership fees with just what you save on those plants!!!!
So if there is a club or society near where you live, give it some consideration
Cheers
Rodney
I await my Orchids Magazine every month. No AOS, no magazine!
