I am looking forward to nights that stay above 50 F. So far we have not been that lucky.

I am amazed by ALL the orchids!!!

I like the baking tray idea. I use plastic nursery trays.

I noticed the sink and cabinet. I am surprised you did not install a deep and square or rectangle basin.

There is one of those big, square laundry sinks right outside this room. I've started my little greenhouse so this room becomes the wintering area for those Dendrobium that need a cold winter rest to bud.

Impressive collection and a nice looking orchid room, Chris! Well done!

Pots and utilities stored neatly in place, water sink for watering and cleaning, fan for air circulation, and also a free space in the middle for repotting process, yes? A few curious questions, may I?

    1. Is the fan big enough to provide air circulation?
    2. Are you going to bring each pot to water sink everytime you water?

Please update when you decide to mount your phals. Phals in pots have their roots ball somehow shaped like a cup, so for me it's tricky to mount them on flat surface. It'd be helpful to see others' methods!

Thank you Baruna! This room is quite small. Only 7' x 7' with a 6' ceiling so the fan is adequate. The sink is not functional. I have a bucket under the drain and only use it to drain mounted plants after soaking. This coming winter the greenhouse will be finished so this room will only be used for Dendrobium that need a winter cold rest and mounted cloud forest species. One of our members, Elio, did a couple of great articles a while back on mounting orchids. OrchidTalk Orchid Forums - Grow Orchids! - Orchid Articles

So this is how you grow orchids in the basement. I'm here for lessons and inspiration. We did have our plants in the basement in the winter months since it costs way too much money too heat a 5 wall polycarb house in our Southern Ontarian winters.

Welcome to RV Barbara! It is cold but a lot of people do use poly. I'll probably only be using the basement to house Dendrobium's and a few others this winter. Next spring I'll move the cold growers back down there.

For some reason I thought you already grew in at least one greenhouse. Nice setup. I guess there's hope for me yet, indoors.

I've been happy using "boot" trays which are usually 12" x 30" or so and about a thick as a cafeteria tray. Keep your eyes open and you'll find they under $5 occasionally.
Looking at your shelves the dimensions of the boot trays might not work so well though.
