Some Paphs and Phrags

from yesterdays show. There were a lot more but these are the ones that impressed me (for Paphs and Phrags). I know a lot of you like them so here they go. Sorry for the terrible pictures. By the time I took them I was running on about 6 hours sleep over the 3 days. Some of the names are not in the picture so going by memory.

This rothschildianum was on sale at $650 from $1000.

I was helping with the judging and thought this was really good but apparently the flowers were finished. Actually enjoyed doing that. Learned a lot about what is being looked for.

Couple more I didn't catch the names of. More tomorrow. I hadn't watered my own plants for 4 days and got up at 3 this morning to do that. Should have finished by 2 but still haven't. Spent most of the day arguing with a a company I hired to do my eaves troughs. Should you ever need work done around your house don't hire one of those places that contract it out.

I don't know a lot about them Zainal but the flowers are about 7" across and the inflorescence is 3' high. Does that along with the colour make it impressive? A question regarding the plant in the second picture. The flower is 6-7" across and it is a species. According to the grower there were only a couple of these found a long time ago and one was preserved at Kew. Does anyone know it?

Based on your description now I knew already it is roth variety Ayubii. which is super expensive is very rare, big flower the inflorescence may reach 3 to 4 feet. Normal roth about 2 feet plus.

One reason for the expense of big 'roths is that they don't grow very fast. At one time I held the UK National Collection of Paphs, so I think I know what I am talking about. Whilst I did flower some paphs 20 months out of flask, most of the multi-floras took 7 years or more ; but then if you are going to need a 24 inch leaf span plant to flower, what can you expect. And many of them don't flower until they are up to multiple growths, whereas some of the Maudiae types flower easily on a single growth. And every year in cultivation must add something t the price.o
