Usually the old roots die because of change in media and they grow new roots to suit new media. You should not have a situation of loosing old pseudobulbs though.

What do they mean when they say....that when you repot your Cattleya all of the previous or "old" roots will die? Does this mean that the corresponding pseudobulbs will die as well? I repotted one that I recently purchased about a month ago, I waited until after it bloomed to repot it and now I'm expecting the worst? Thanks in advance.

P.S. I see a new little "bulge" coming from the bottom of the pseudobulb that recently bloomed so I'm getting excited to see new growth.

I agree with Sriram.
Yep. The individual plants' pseudobulbs are connected through a series of rhizomes. As long as they are green, they are sharing and storing resources, and even the rootless ones are still photosynthesizing, providing energy to the entire colony.
Ok. Got it. Thanks!
to what Sriram, Zain and Ray said.
