Thanks for the link, orchid-man. How can I better identify my dends? I have two: Burana Jade, and D Bobby Messina X (D Jaid Gold X D Ahulani Hinojosa).
I know I'm trying to work backwards from the names but I have had little success finding out which sections of dends (phalaenanthe section?) they are from and their parentage. The only think I know is that they mericlone plants. I'm not sure I am phrasing the question correctly; Newbie On Board! Looking at the info in your link for example, how can I tell if my orchids fall under the species or hybrid cultures that are listed? I want to know more specifics about my particular plants and their care. Can you tell me where to look?
    Thanks!

this is where I sort out the breeding lines if I have a cross
    http://www.rhs.org.uk/research/regis..._parentage.asp

your Dendrobium Burana Jade can be traced back from here
    http://www.rhs.org.uk/research/regis...chidsearch.asp

So Bobby Messina X (D Jaid Gold X D Ahulani Hinojosa) is not registered yet.
I have just followed D Ahulani Hinojosa back about 4 generations and found Dendrobium discolor as a parent .
The D Jaid Gold and D Bobby Messina I am unable to find.
The general culture for Bobby Messina X (D Jaid Gold X D Ahulani Hinojosa) would be somewhat similar to Dendrobium phalaenopsis, and Dendrobium bigibbum. And Dendrobium Burana Jade is going to be the same.

    Murray,

Any idea what specific culture a Dend. amethystoglossum wants? I've got a big healthy one that refuses to bloom, and I'd give my right arm to see those blossums!

Dendrobium amethystoglossum is native to the Philippine mountains, and likes cool temperatures. Luzon, Philippines on mossy, limestone cliffs at 1400 meters, strong filtered light.

Wow, Julie, sounds like a great plant. Do you have pics of what the flowers will be?
Hope you don't have to move to the Philippine mountains to see it bloom; but I wouldn't put it past you!
    Thanks, orchid-man!

    ***SHAMELESS CONFESSION***

This photo was lifted from a Japanese Web site. I take no credit for the photography or the culture of the plant. I can only claim good taste for having one of my own.

Thanks, Murray, for the in situ report. I'm hoping someone who actually grows these guys can give me specific cultivation tips. Mine is happy, but what will make it bloom? Nelson? You're my hope!

Hmm... ok, I'm seeing names of a couple of the Dend's I'm trying to pick from... But I'm worried about getting one that will get too tall!

Can someone please tell me approximately how tall the following will get? (Maybe all the same height?)

    D. Thong Chai Gold 'Mutation'
    D. Burana 'Jade'
    D. Bobby Messina X D. Jiad Gold

If they're all about the same size, are any of them possibly easier to grow for a newbie?

    Thanks!
