    Question Is this a spike?

Last August, JDT sent me a Stanhopea embreei x anfracta. It is my only Stanhopea so I am inexperienced with them.

I did move it into a basket last year as I know they flower from the roots. Is this a spike? I just discovered it today.

No - I don't think so. That's just a new growth ; clue is a spike always points down. Not horizontal, slightly up. I hope evefryone can prove me wrong , and say "Dorsetman is a pessimist - ignore him "
Embreesias are a real pain . Used to be a separate genus, then part of Stanhopea, then back again - not that this movement is a pain - no more than with any other genus ( well it always is, when new labels are needed) but they seem to be the Stanhopeas which never flower . Maybe its my technique - probably is ; but the whole phylum ( maybe wrong word) of Stanhopea etc seems to be a pain. Cattleyas are so-o-o-o--- much easier - I'll stick to them.
