And lastly...here are the two amazing Vanda I brought home. First; Vanda Dr Anek 'Bai 4', with huge flowers and the second plant is Vanda Kultana Fragrance x Vanda luzonica. I had been searching for a nice Kultana x Luzonica hybrid and was thrilled to find one with two spikes. Hope you all enjoyed the pictures. If I make it to the big show in May down in Homestead I'll be back with more pictures of a show for those of you that don't get to see one in person. :0)

I always enjoyed going but the last couple years before I quit, there were a new group in charge that did NOT want me going in to take pictures. They were also arranging things in a way that made it increasingly difficult to get through the aisles. The last year I kept getting stuck in crowds to the point I had an anxiety attack. Being in a wheelchair can be scary at times and I was getting too nervous about being in crowds. I was encouraged this year to consider going as there is a new group heading the orchid society. So I decided to go and see how things were and I was very pleasantly surprised. I have to say, the new group in charge are doing a great job and I plan on not only going back next year but I think I may try to go to one of the Homestead shows next year as well. I have missed my yearly flower show and plan on making up for the ones I've missed. :0)

Very glad to hear that and a big thank you to the new group heading the society for being humane.

I do understand your mobility problems - not from personal experience, but as my wife's carer ; she uses any or all of walking sticks, zimmer frame, wheelchair, electric scooter, rollator... depending on circumstances , but she is so scared of being knocked down, or falling down, that we have given up theatres, opera, ballet , cinema etc ( which had been our life, almost - for the 35 years we have been together - we went somewhere or other twice a week ) ; she will be 89 in a few weeks, and is quite frail - her next operation is scheduled for the start of next month ; when she leaves the house now it is always with me,going to places where we are fairly sure there will be no crowds - like her reading club, and her Shakespeare study group , and her preference then is to walk ( she can manage short distances , like 50 yards - holding on to my arm).
She used to enjoy orchid shows , but now I go alone. I have tried to get the two orchid societies where I am an active member, to provide a few chairs, so that people like my wife can attend, and be able to sit down and rest periodically , but they think tghey would get in the way of the general public and cannot be persuaded .
Growing old is no fun for most .
