I've read that the beer doesn't work on bush snails since they rarely leave their preferred location between the roots. A direct spray or drench of something they don't like - like really strong coffee - would work.

There was some conjecture that caffeine was toxic to them, and that's what gave me the idea to try the coffee. Studies with lab-produced caffeine solutions - much stronger concentrations than in coffee - had mixed and questionable results, which make me thing that either 1) it's something else in coffee that is effective, or its combination with caffeine, or 2) my experience and observation was a huge coincidence, and the snails died/left for another reason.

I was recently reading good feedbacks on liquid formulation of metaldehyde. A product called Deadline Force II . I have not used it myself as it is not available locally here but would not mind trying it

I'll look into that Sriram, thank you! I know the slug bait I use in my flower beds states that it shouldn't be allowed to sit on the plant parts. Active ingredient is ferric phosphate.

Iron phosphate is apparently ineffective against bush snails, so one must rely of metaldehyde, if looking for known cures. However, metaldehyde is particularly toxic, so use it with caution. I have used Deadline-MPs, a "mini-pellet" containing it, but I kept all pets and people out of the greenhouse for a while after application. I would not recommend it for indoor use - no odor I am aware of, just a risk.

Thanks Ray, I don't think metaldehyde is available to the general public in Canada. I wonder why it is effective against some snails/slugs but not others?

To my knowledge, metaldehyde is effective on all slugs and snails. It's the iron phosphate that isn't.

Right, I wonder why iron phosphate is not effective on some species?
