Unhappy EWWWW!!! So that's why one should repot when they get a new plant!

I decided to finally repot my noid Paph. When it arrived a couple months ago, it had 4 buds, so I wanted to wait to repot even though I knew that it needed it. Every time I water, dust runs out so I knew it was decomposing. I'm down to one last bloom so...

So, I got it out of the pot and these two totally disgusting little creepy centipedes were in the mix! yuck! yuck! yuck!!!!Blech!
These nasty icky things SO give me the creeps! Right up there on the list with cockroaches in my book and most insects don't freak me out. That plant was out of the house faster than I could spit! YUCKO!
There were only two and they are smoshed now. and actually the roots look very good. Not Berenice good, but good! Only one rotty looking one and I need a bigger pot than I anticipated. I took pics of the roots and will post tomorrow.

Now...watch me freak out and repot everything else I haven't yet repotted!

I hate all bugs, especially spiders and centipedes. Both of which are probably quite harmless to orchids and possibly beneficial, if they're feasting on other nasties. But I still hate them all.

Yes, Jason is right. It is not at all unusual to find centipedes in bark mixes and they are harmless. You'll find more in the future, so you have to get used to them.

The way you say some things Heather, you really make me laugh (my boyfriend is looking at me weird ) at your description of your wretched hatred for bugs. Centepides must live in pairs, my phal had a couple living quite cozily in my pot.

I'm with Jason! It's every thing I can do to keep from spraying all the crawling things. I do knock off the spiderwebs. I know they don't hurt a thing, but I hate the things!

I wonder if centipedes will eat mealies or scale?
