    Default Lc Hsinying Pub 'albosanguineum'

Seems like a strange name, to western eyes, but Hsinying is a name used a lot by one particular Far East breeder. But 'Pub' does throw me !. Albosanguineum is just a fancy way of saying semi-alba.
The grex has been awarded a few times, mostly in the Far East, with flowers a bit better than the one shown here - wider petals for example. But this is a first flowering for me, and I expect it to improve when it has two years good roots instead of just one year.

Very nice! A thing that puzzles me. The experts always say to re-pot Cattleya every two years. The plant might take a year to recover from that. We should only expect a good flowering every two years?

That is a bit out of date Chris . When we grew in fibre and moss , when the world was young, it took a year to get over the brutal hammering the roots took, but nowadays with bark in particular, and with care, there is not too much damage. My "one years roots" are due to being dried out, sent across the Atlantic by air ( how cold does it get in the plane hold I wonder ?) and then starting off in the Northern hemisphere instead of the Southern, meaning a sudden 6 month shift for the plant too.

Aw, I'd had so many large flowered Cattleya hybrids grown abroad that just never flowered again. I've stopped buying them unless they are grown here or I know they have been in Canada for a few years.
