Default What will happen if a cattleya has only one eye but damaged?

My neighbor gave another cattleya cutting today that has three very healthy pseudobulbs. Only one bulb has one eye left but damaged so my question is will it produce new eyes or not anymore and will just continue to live and die after many years? Thanks so much in advance.

When meristematic material is damaged, the plant will often redirect its energies into creating a new growth front.

Keep the plant happy, and it will likely recover.

Thanks Ray for your reply. I understand what you mean but my neighbor told me all the three bulbs already produced two eyes and became keikis and only one left but damaged. I also want to ask can each bulb produce third or fourth eyes?

I think Cattleyas have upto three bud eyes, two near the rhizome and the third one is in the base of the pseudobulb (at least that is what I can see in my cattleya orchids). Also, what do you mean by damaged? I have an orchid that had an eye that looked damaged and brown and suddenly a new growth developed from it.

As long as the the plant is not infected you have a chance to get the new growth anyway all the best.
