Catasetums and closely associated genera are normally single sexed, unlike most other orchids. The sex is determined by temperature at thetimethe flower bud was at a critical point in development. Getting flowers of both sexessimply means that conditions were rather variable over the time the buds were developing. Most of this genera have rather boring lumpy green female flowers, and much more interesting male flowers.
