Default Vanilla Plantifolia Mount/Stake + Growing Tips?

Just bought a Vanilla Plantifolia cutting at an orchid show, I was going to pot it in loose sphagnum moss with a few lava rocks at the bottom for stability. I was wondering what I could use for a stake though. I know they like to climb and their aerial roots will attach to whatever they are growing up. I was thinking of mabye a 1×2 piece of construction wood with some coconut fibre or spaghnum wrapped around it. Ideally I would buy one of those premade coco coir rods but I can't seem to find them anywhere. Any suggestions for a mount/stake and any tips for growing would be appreciated!

I had one in a pot with a cymbidium type mix (semi-terrestrial) for years. When I went to re-pot I noticed that the roots had just barely gone under the surface, and had grown round and round the edge. It likes to be lightly damp, and grown in dappled sunlight.

Here in the Keys we can plant it in the landscape. Typically just stick a cutting into a layer of garden mulch and let it climb up onto whatever it wants to.
Never had much luck growing in a pot because, as you've noticed, the roots at the stem tend to grow horizontally.
