    Anyone heard from Geoff lately?

He hasn't posted for several days, and I hope I didn't offend him by my response!

    Still here, not offended.
I think you will find it in some of the Nikon literature, for example. You can start off from Nikon Raw, and works in sRGB and 12bit , and get a very good range of colour, but the text books will show you where colours are outside the system and cannot be shown, even then.
But when you switch to jpeg, and in particular for eMail or internet transmission ( as distinct from colour printing, or sending a file for subsequent handling) you hit the buffers of the 8 bit system.
It may be that the system you describe is specifying a blend of two or more colours.
Or it may be that I am out of date ! My photographic technology dates back to the last century when I was an active exhibition photographer.

I was looking for something else on our site, and came across this old thread; And then I thought to ask google, the question - how many colours can be shown etc...
I was nearly right - well only about 16 million out !
It seems that 256 different shades of magenta can be shown, ditto yellow, and ditto blue . So the actual number is 256 x 256 x 256 = 16 million and a few more...
You see , I did say 256 . But it is 256 per colour ( of the three colour system) and each can be combined the others, So I got 256 right, and maybe everything else wrong.

As I said ( tongue in cheek) I was only a little bit out....
    mea culpa.
