The original parent (Rhnds. Bangkok Sunset) vanda died from something that I think was black rot maybe 6 to 9 months ago. I kept the root structure watered near my other plants and 3 new sprouts emerged. Two look very healthy, however the first pair of leaves on the large sprout are a reddish brown color. I actually didnt notice the new growth until recntly so I know if it is stable or getting worse. Should I clip the brown leaves off. Is it possible to grow a healthy plant from a sick (fungused?)parent? I haven't trated the plant with any anti fungal meds yet. What should I do? Thanks.
Too much sun.
They are shaded by plants and get some direct sunlight. I'll move them to a shadier spot. I think maybe the brown color came when I moved them to the brighter area. Hopefully they aren't diseased after all. I will follow up in a few weeks. If anyone else has any experience with new plants growing from diseased parent plants please feel free to followup.
Thanks, it is now getting no direct sun.
I would agree with Geoff. It is growing, I am sure they have been thru worse in the wild and recovered.
Put under the shade is the best the outcome is still very good.
Agreed with everyone. Shade for now as they are still small. Gradual increase the light as it grows to prevent sunburn.
