Losing a Phal leaf.

So I suppose you all think I should know enough by now to answer my own question. But what you all don't realize is that Im a hypochondriac bordering on pschosomatic, and worse yet I do it to my pets and plants. So, I am deathly afraid this plant is getting root rot!! Or it could be that the particular leaf in question is deing becuase it was covered so much by another leaf that it was rendered useless. What do you guys think?? its a Phalaenopsis amabilis 'Double Diamond'. I got it at the NYC orchid show in April. Its been very nice with the flower to me. But I always thought the leaves on this one were a bit queer. Not that I know what normal is though.

I may get out voted but I would say that it is a normal leaf die off. Mine shead leaves all of the time. Sterilize the cutting tool before and after, if you have to cut it off just to be safe.

Molly - errr - Cin is right. Leaves do die off, from the bottom. As soon as I see one fading I cut it off. a little cinnamon on the cut is a good anti-biotic.

that is normal leaf die off.In a matter of days it will fall off on its own.

Diane, I didn't know cinnamon did that. Its so yummy too. I need a cinnamon cake.

By the picture, a slight yank and the leaf should come off or it should fall off naturally in a couple of days. Absolutely no big deal... the plant and leaves look great, beautiful blooms and I'm sure they're huge too.

Yup, you've heard it all, Tindo - it's a healthy looking plant. Nice blooms too!

I usually just wait for the leaves to drop on their own. Then you don't need the cinn.

When it's the bottom-most leaf and everything else looks fine, you don't need to panic. It still can give me a shot of adrenaline when I see it, but five minutes breathing into a paper bag sets me right again (chased with a scotch!)

For some reason or another the orchid lost two blooms near the very first one seen in the pic. But it didnt loose any of its buds, and the buds all opened up about 3 weeks ago. 7 Flowers in total but it would have been 9 of 10 if the other flowers had not dropped.
