Thanks Geoff! I have heard that phrase about this one before. Too bad you have problems growing these they are great ones to have. Such a beautiful bloom that most times blooms at least 2 times during the growing season and I have some that do it 3 times each summer. The best thing is as they go dormant in the fall you leave them alone, no water, no fertilizer till spring.

Thanks for your comments. Yes there are some that have as many as 1500 different species and counting and that does not include all the hybrids now available, namely Bulbophyllum.

It's beautiful Jack as well as the photography! My Cycnoches is just starting to spike and if you remember last year, it won't bloom until January. Again, patience is a virtue with orchids but well worth the wait!

Yes they are! I noticed yesterday a new spike on one and that will take weeks before they are open, thanks Sheryl!

According to Kew, it has a “c” in the middle . Named for Josef Warscewicz. A Polish name, or maybe Prussian, I think. But do you know how they pronounce it in Wroclaw or Wkockaweck ? Myslatem, ze nie.!
But this is nit picking. We all know exactly which orchid we are talking about.

I'm sure that's right, Geoff. Many family names, when anglicized, get various spellings. I have always known my maternal grandparents' name as "Swystun", but have seen records of Swistun, Swiston, Swyston, and even Swistoon, which is probably more how it is pronounced in the original Ukrainian.
