This plant flowered fpor me last year with, I think, a single flower . . However, none of the previous bulbs is better than 18cm, and this year it has made a 25cm bulb which probably explains the spike of 6 , although one bud yellowed and fell off as the others opened. The size is about 11cm natural spread.
I like the vertical arrangement of flowers , which comes from L.purpurata which is one parent - the other being a complex cattleya made from bicolour, loddigesii and intermedia , and of course they are all medium or small flowers.
The clonal name 'albosanguineum' is rather stating the obvious, since it seems to mean no more than the usual and frequenly seen semi-alba in the cattleya family, but maybe the breeder has found other colour combinations coming through from the various parents.
The improvement in bulb size could be down to the long sunny spells we had in the summer, when I turned the grow lights off , but hopefully it is just the effect of my culture now well into the second year, and I can at least wish to repeat it next growing season, whatever the summer ; although it is now rooting well and has a new growth 15 or so cm high. Maybe it will flower twice in the 12 months ? Or perhaps have two flowering growths next December. Wait and see , I tell myself.
