    Default Paphiopedilum javanicum Care ?

    Hello,

I would like some informations of how to handle Paphiopedilum javanicum.
Now it has a spike and grown along with the new leaf surrounds it.

    1. How many times should i water the pot ?
    My location condition is :
    - In tropical climate condition
    - Lots of wind + sunlight and orchids are under UV filtered canopy with 600 lux at midday.
    - Orchids are on a wall.
    - Midday is hot, I need to spray some water to wet the leaves and they look happy.

    2. How should I fertilize it ?
Using NPK or other kind of homebrew fertilizer perhaps ?
Spray fertilizer into the pot or onto the leaves ?

I think this genera loves daily but thin portion of natural fertilizer.

    Media drainage is perfect.

Please load me with useful tips, hacks or tricks of dealing with this picky orchid.
    Thankyou in advance.

Sounds like you're currently "pushing" the growing conditions quite a bit.

In nature, the plants typically see mid-, to upper 50'sF (~13C) at night and low 70's (~23C) in the daytime, and only about half that light level, year round.

With a "perfectly draining" medium, it's hard to overwater, and paphs do prefer a constantly moist, airy rhizosphere.

As far as feeding is concerned, I wholly agree with frequent, low-dose applications. 25 ppm N using a high-nitrogen formula, applied 3x per week, is a great regimen. (Divide 2 by the %N on the fertilizer label for teaspoons/gallon, or divide 2.3 by the %N for ml/L to obtain a 25 ppm N solution.)

Ray, thankyou for such detail explanations.

Sometimes, I see the leaves are stiff and wavy.
But after that it's not wavy anymore.
I can feel the leaves are smooth almost like human skin.
On midday I have to moist it with water sprayer.
Paph javanicum isn't the first time for me but years ago I failed to keep it alive.
I suspect NPK fertilizer factory mix sodium in it to preserve the fertilizer ingredients during shipping and shelf life time.
Ideas with natural fertilizer concoction is welcome.

Personally, I am not a fan of home-made fertilizers using "natural" or "organic" ingredients. Their contents tend to be variable at best and unknown at worst, and blending them to get a complete set of nutrients is difficult.

I don't know why a fertilizer factory would need a preservative. Water soluble fertilizers are made up of inorganic compounds that don't decompose over time. The worst thing that can happen is their absorption of water from the air, rendering them soupy and unappealing-looking, but still usable.

    Where are you located?

    Java, Indonesia.

    I agree with this :

I think I was holding on wrong method of how to correctly apply this factory fertilizer on orchids.
