A beauty!
I have seen them in Venezuela, with great big heads of flowers all facing outwards from the stem, like a giant football. Most impressive : but not plants to grow on one’s windowsill ! The name means “ ant-lover” as I expect you know. At least one of the species has hollow bulbs, in which ants make their home. Not all of the species, @nd not all kinds of ants apparently, since a small black ant is a bit of a pest in my garden - sometimes come into the house ,which is not very popular - and have been found making nests in my larger pots in the greenhouse, but never anywhere near my plants of this genus.
Thanks Jack I never seen it before but still no idea the ID.

So far I dont see any insects/ants ( maybe later) but black ants keep coming to suck the honey secreted by the spike.
I've never seen anything like it before!
Zain- I have a hybrid (Mem. Louise Fuchs) that is just now starting to bloom.
2 spikes that are so long I had to move the pot off the bench and onto the ground because the top of the spikes were getting periously close to the shadecloth even under the ridgepole.
Will post a pic when it's fully bloomed out.
What a beauty!
Thanks Charity very odd species indeed.
