Good day,
About 6 months ago I bought a Red Pancy Orchid. A month ago (the start of Spring in South Africa) it started a new stem with a flower bud, however it stop growing any further. It looks as if the bud is unable to open by itself.
Any advice on the reason for this will be appreciated.

Assuming you're referring to a miltoniopsis, they prefer it cool and humid, with at best, dappled sunlight. Too warm and/or too dry can stall things.
Raybark, thanks for the feedback. I will place the plant in a more humid environment and see what happen.
Good Day, just some feedback, I placed the orchid in a closed plastic container and it seems that the flower buds are now developing the way it should. Hopefully will open within a week or two.
Just another question : Is it possible to successfully grow orchids in an old fishtank ?
Raybark, thanks again for your feedback. Should I close the top or leave it open?
That will depend upon your specific situation. If the home is dry and/or you have a lot of air movement, partially covering it can trap humidity better. You don't want to totally close it as the damp, stagnant conditions favor fungal infections.
Thanks very much for your feedback.
