Thank you Lutz! The first plant is in a pot. The second is a division from the first that I put in the tree about 5 years ago. I gave away about 8 divisions from the first this summer so a lot of my friends and my mom are enjoying a bloom or two themselves

My goodness, that is huge! WOW! We have one blooming now as well, but it is a baby compared to yours. Both are beautiful, but I love seeing it grow in a tree!!
    Great growing!!

Thank you Arne! I'm sure it's not one meant for a tree but that's what novices do

Well yes, I do know why Sheryl, do you ?
If not, all of your flowers are like this, but have an extra layer or two of cells on top of the yellow ones, and these extra cells contain the anthocyanin molecules. This one had a slight error in the sequencing of the genome as the bud developed, and the extra layers never formed. You will find that the yellow flowers are of slightly less substance ( thinner) but it is difficult to measure that without the most precise scientific instruments.

BTW I do like your garden orchids - who could not like such super big and healthy plants ? But it really would nag me - how could I get that darn tree to my Orchid Society Show and put it on the bench...
