Default Phal bellina bloom in green?

    Hi all,

I came across a P. bellina flower which is in green. The seller told me that it came from the wild and initially the blooms were like any other usual bellina but the next round of blooms they were all green. It was green from the moment it opens and stayed green for up to 4 months now. It does not have any fragrant at all too. It happens to the whole batch of p. bellina that he sourced.

Any idea why the plants reacts that way?

Flower coloration is intended to attract pollinators. It looks to me like the anther cap and pollinia are missing, so the flower's job is done, whether it was pollinated or not. Hence the return to green coloration, making it no longer attractive to pollinators.

    Hi Ray,

Now that you mentioned, ya.. The anther cap and pollinia is missing. You have any idea how this happens? Seems like something ate it or it dried off.

Not sure whether the subsequent future blooms will be the same..

I think it's unlikely that flower was formed that way, so future blooms should be normal.

It could have been removed by an insect or accidentally brushed against, where a piece of clothing snagged it - assuming it wasn't removed intentionally to use on another plant. I have accidentally done so with my hand while reaching for another plant.
