    Your bulbo orchids are all fascinating! Most of mine have died from neglect over the last year so I will enjoy your blooms instead. Thanks for sharing them and the wonderful photographs.

    Hey there Jack - do you know the origin of the name here ? It has been puzzling me for some time. I recognise a similar word as having something to do with my eyes - before having some eye operations ( cataracts etc) I was told to put a heated pad on my closed eyes for 10 minutes every day, so as to deal with belpharisma ( or some very similar word)...
    So eventually i looked it up. It means eye-lashes... Looking at you pics, I can see why .
    ( the heated pad thing was to soften the wax and goo which can clog up the eyelashes, and risk infection in the eye op, I suppose )
    But the name, in connection with the orchid - interesting ?

    Geoff, I have no clue it was first named in Burma in 1895 who decided on the name is not mentioned. After your description I can see why you think that. I noticed today it is still blooming, my kind of bulbo!
