Unhappy Paphiopedilum In-Charm Valwin not doing anything

    Hi all,

I have a friend that needs help. He has a paph that was bought locally 1 year ago..but it seems that it doesnt have any root growth so far and only grew 1 leaf after few months. It is 60-70% shaded and potted in charcoal with abit of moss on top.

It just doesnt look right or healthy..

    Please advice.

Not knowing his watering regimen but based upon the photos, I would think that the charcoal is just too dry. Either put it into a medium that retains more water, or just water it more often. Paphs in nature tend to spread their roots widely in the leaf litter on the forest floor, which is organic and moist.

I grow all my paphs in semi-hydroponics, so there is always a ready supply of water.

Agree. I grow my paphs in small redwood bark with a mix of coconut husks to help hold some moisture.

    Cheers,
