    Cool Guarianthe bowringiana

I have been very negligent about posting photos of my orchids. My camera lens on my mobile phone got smashed and I purchased a replacement lens, but it makes everything blurry, so even though I have been taking photos, they really are not much to write home about. haha... Anyway, this orchid plant used to be Cattleya bowringiana, but has been renamed to Guarianthe bowringiana. It has gotten huge over the years. I grow it on a lower shelf and it just reaches in all directions. The blooms are so pretty and compact in bunches. I got this plant from my friend, Gin, many years ago. I always think of her when it blooms.

    I have a few Guarianthe's myself Bruce.
The new growth always fascinates me because it starts out looking unlike any other orchid.

The other thing is that the new growths start underground. The only "cattleya" I know which does that , and I cannot remember any other Guaranthe doing that either.
A nice form you have there Bruce - probably has flowers twice the size of mine !. But then, in this cold spell just starting here, my daytime temperature is just a crack above 16˚ C.- and that with the boiler running....I am already spending a fortune on energy costs, and with these climate warming ideas demanding that we get rid of all gas appliances, I don't think i will be growing orchids mwhen they become law ! ( Here in Europe generally, electficity costs about 4 times the price of gas )
Mind you, when they say, this will have to be law by 2030 - I shall be close to my 100th birthday, so more likely to be pushing up the daisies than growing catts. But you never know, maybe I shall still be here boring everyone with my stories about way back !

I sure hope so, Geoff! I love learning from you. Maybe by then, there will be another way to power heaters that isn't harmful to the planet and doesn't cost so much! haha...

    cheers,
