Den nobile. like many dendrobes, flowers now on 2018 canes. the 2019 ones will flower next year, and so on. I have spent hours in Thailand, getting a crick in my neck trying to see if they do this is the wild too, but the plants are not nicely separated as they are in pots on my bench, and often quite high in the air, and I have never been quite sure....
The 2019 canes here, on the left for example are 27 inches high, or more. The flowering ones are a few inches less ; so in other words I am still getting larger canes each year, year after year. I have had this plant for maybe 5 years now. Is there a limit ? There must be, but then I have some other dendrobes now producing canes 4 ft high, which originally flowered on ones 18 inches high. So, who knows.
Quite pale flower; I have previously commented that the light in my greenhouse is poor, and this tends to produce pale washed out flowers ( especially in the pinks) and especially in dendrobes. But after cleaning 8 years or so of filth off my glass, inside and out ( 120 bar pressure jet ! ) the light is completely different. As the old growers used to say (joke) " why, its so bright you can see to read a newspaper in there ".
I look forward to pink D.nobile, next year... we shall see !

you are too warm for this. My greenhouse heating system raises the temperature to a minimum pf 12 in the winter - an unsatisfactory compromise - a bit too cool for the cattleyas, a bit too warm for the dendrobiums. What to do ? I'm still thinking about that...
I flower this nobile after putting it outside in a tiny greenhouse, kept to a minimum of 7 degrees C - but most of the time from September to December, it would be single figures, below 10 at least, at night.

Yup as you mention that is my limitation and sometimes for no apparent reason he flowered for me only 2 to 3 flowers.
