The plant is growing in a 7cm pot , and the flowers are 3 ˝ cm natural spread - in the north south direction. Currently 5 flowers and 5 buds. The flowers are very long lasting, and I mean long - months not weeks. IOSPE shows a few snaps of specimen plants - maybe 6 inch pans, with the leaves hidden by flowers. Amazing.
This is a fantastic species if you can grow it, but even more so if you can get it... not hard to grow - it really like it cool - comes from high altitudes in New Guinea, often in a mist , but it chooses spots where it can be in full sun when the sun is out. But it puts up with my cattleya etc. conditions ( currently winter night temp 15 ˚ C., ) and flourishes.
Examples can be seen in a range of colours ; solid red, the same yellow, a so-called white, actually a rather creamy ivory white, and so on. This is the bicolor form.
It is often available in UK as tiny seedlings, like pieces of sewing cotton an inch high - I spent too much money 3 weeks ago buying compots of 3 different colour forms; despite all my TLC I doubt if any will survive. This particular plant I spotted on the stall of a Scandinavian trader at a show I went to in Paris a couple of years ago - and I grabbed it fast. It has about doubled in size since then. So the problem is just when they are tiny babies. Boo-hoo.....
But this chap is a joy. Hope you like it too.

    Well done Geoff!

I never dared to get this species because it was supposedly difficult to grow.
