First time flowering for me ; 11 flowers, 6cm natural spread.
The colour, I think, comes from Laelia cinnabarina - a lovely species which has disappeared from view. I had one 50 years ago , when I had no idea how to grow it..... has been on my wanted list ever since I began to have some success with the genus, and thought about this on, but have never seen it. I then started searching, but cinnabarina, is never on offer. What a shame.I have no idea why not - the other similarly coloured Laelia species is freely available, is.

This is a complex hybrid also with big chunks of dowiana, millerii, and tigrina in it, plus small quantities of 4 other named species, and then another big chunk of "other". So a mongrel, really. But what a nice mongrel.

That is on fire! Beautifully bloomed, Geoff! I love the vibrant red coloring and the amazing display of blooms. Definitely a 'nice mongrel'. hahaha.. I wish I had one just like it.
