A primary hybrid between Encyclia cordigera and Encyclia alata. Has been awarded shown with muiltibranched spikes 50 flowers. This plant in my collection since Spring last year, flowering for the first time for me- evidently flowered once before.
So- needs to do a lot better. Here's hoping.

One of the very first orchids I grew on my own was something like this. It was a NOID that I picked up at a florist shop when I was in college. It was not in bloom at the time and I thought it was a Cattleya of some sort. When it bloomed it looked a lot like this one. I remember mine was fragrant. Is this one fragrant? It brings back fond memories.

I am often asked about perfume, and have very little to say: I guess I don’t have much sense of smell. And I ‘m not sure if that is right, either . In my garden I have a big bush of Daphne odora ‘Jacque Postil’ - must be more than 2 ˝ metres high, an perhaps 1 ˝. Wide , which in late winter , end of January here this year is completely covered in pink flowers, and on a windless day, in sunshine ( needs both) I am aware of the scent when I open the door to go into the garden, 20 metres away from it.And since it lasts for maybe 6 weeks, that is a real favourite.
But for most o rchids in the glasshouse, I have to put nose right up close to be aware of anything.
Perennial rhinitis ( a mild cold which is now in its 3rd year ) does not help I suppose. Or maybe it is just one of my senses which is not as good as it used to be because of increasing age - I know that my eyesight is not quite as good as it was, ditto hearing, so why not smell too for the same reason ? A whole body transplant might be nice... come back in the next century perhaps - ha-ha...
