A reliable July bloomer for me ; I have several plants now, as it increases in the way that all well-behaved orchids should do ( I hope they are all listening ). This one having three spikes, in perhaps a 7 inch or maybe some funny size ( having been bought with something for the garden and recycled) thereabouts. Usually about 5-6 flowered, but some here are at least 7 I think. Shows what a bit of neglect will do ! Flowers somewhere between 3 and 4 inches . It's before breakfast ( waiting for the kettle to boil) but I don't want to stop and mess about with measuring tapes).

Round about where I live there is a big annual show -3 day event, The New Forest Show , at the end of July, and this plant always features heavily in (one of ) my Orchid Society's displays (good place to pick up new members) , but this year with lockdown, the show is cancelled. A pity, for whilst I have always shunned it, on the basis that I dislike crowds, somehow I feel different this year - maybe its one effect of lockdown and social distancing, I want people around me, I don't want to be alone...

    It's a funny life, don't you think ?

I would considered the above plant is a winner for you looks so exotic but it's alright I would like to see your post this will indicate that you are ok, I knew live alone is not that easy, weird, boring no one can listen to you, I hope is not forever one day it will end when nobody know. Take care Geoff.

Nice blooming Geoff! Only show I have been able to go to this year was in January once the virus started they were all canceled including the really big one at Redland in May, I just hope they start up again but with the mess we are in here in the US who knows!

I think it is a beautiful plant. I think most of us miss the meetings and shows that have been canceled.

Beautiful, well-grown Miltonia. As far as missing people, I guess I'm more of a hermit. I don't really mind not seeing groups of people. I miss not being able to see close family that live in different US states, but have rather enjoyed the time being home and shifting focus to home and projects here. The university where I teach is planning to reopen with face-to-face classes in August. I'm a bit nervous about that. I had never taught online until mid-March when the university closed for two days and told us to move our classes online. I think I would prefer that to going into a classroom with a bunch of 18 - 23-year-old students who may or may not be proactive in protecting each other and themselves from the virus. With the way cases are spiking in my area, I suspect that classes will be moved online within a few weeks of opening. I just have a hard time believing that students will wear their masks and keep social distancing when they come back together for the first time since March. Guess we'll see....

    cheers,
    BD
