Oh dear, I have not been able to get the colour right, and its the colour, apart from the shape, which is the stunner. Its a really good rich pink. The image makes it look redder than it is, but I just can't get it right. Its one of the zone - I have forgotten the words, not having been into that stuff for years - Adobe will show you an area covering all the colours which can be represented on the web, and if you go outside that, it just can't be done.
The red phrags, get it from P.besseae of course . but that red is hard to describe to anyone outside UK - because its our pillar box red, London omnibus red, Fire engine red - but all those are peculiarly British, right ? You paint your pillar boxes yellow ( in much of Europe) - I have no idea how you paint them in the States etc. And my pic makes the flower look as though its almost that colour. It's not.

A first flowering of a plant coming from our friends in Ecuador. I read that the dreaded virus is running riot in latin America - we are almost out of it here in UK - but that may be just the first phase ; But life is coming back to normal, I can book time at my gym from Saturday onwards , and can get to see a dear friend who is on chemotherapy , in his garden keeping well away - which I hope will be good for his spirits , etc. But not normal as we used to know it, of course - the restaurant I am booking for some family on Saturday night, requires us to be inspected, temperature tested, and leave contact numbers before we are allowed in,. I am told.We don';t have to wear masks, but we do in shops everywhere, on public transport ( which I don't use) and it is becoming socially acceptable to wear them in the street too . Normal ?

To all my readers - Keep well, Keep safe...

p.s Inspecting the pic, now, if you look at the lower left hand side of the pouch, there is a small area which is pinkish - that is much nearer the real colour of the whole flower. I will try and pick that off, and maybe have another go, another day...

The wow factor is off the charts here Geoff! It's spectacular! As far as the virus, I think we've all had enough! So ready to get back and stay into some normalcy. You enjoy your visits and getting back to the gym!

Dear all who knew my father, Geoff (dorsetman). I’m afraid to report that Covid got him and he died in early December. Just a few weeks before he would have got the vaccine too. It was all so sudden and we are all still in shock. His orchids have been taken by the local orchid societies, as was his wish, with the remainder (there were so many!) going to a trader. His national collection of dendrobiums have been kept together and taken on by a local chap. Dad lived life to the full, he couldn’t stand the idea of hiding away from the virus, but perhaps he should have done a little more hiding. It’s all so sad.
    Regards, Lewis

    Lewis,

I hope you come back and read this.

We are all very sad to hear of your father’s passing. He has been an online friend to many of us for several years, and we will miss him greatly.

Lewis, we are all so sad to hear of your father's passing. He was a good friend to us all here on the forum with his expansive knowledge and love of orchids. We will miss those contributions and his wonderful life stories. Condolences to you and your family ❤️
