    Default Bulbophyllum schinzianum

First time bloom. I got this from a nursery from Africa that came to Redland in 2017 it is a strange one for sure. I did not realize when I got it that it would grow and spike like it did. I got it as a division and mounted it, now that 2 foot mount is covered with growth 360 degrees, the spike is at least 18 inches tall and the buds are in a sheath that contain many small buds, unfortunately only 1 or 2 of the small buds open at a time and the bloom only last for a day. What do you think?

Very cool Jack! Well since they only last a day, at least there's a lot of buds. The flower reminds me of a bee

That is so cool! It is like a bee. Love how long the spike gets - it wants it bloom way up in the air to attract polinators. I love it!

    cheers,

I think it is really neat. . It is really interesting they way it blooms, and yes I immediately thought of a bee of some sort when I saw it.

Thanks Ray! I remember Chris use to think they looked like roaches but Sheryl might be right about the bee.
