For me since I live in the south, I am going to chime in on the Vanda alliance. Since Vandas are easily grown in my area, then I would recommend them to people in my area. I would first have to warn them that vandas are wierd since they don't need soil. Explain why and how that entriques me. (sorry I can't spell today.)
East or western window
High light requirement, full sun either during the morning or evening as long as it is slightly shaded in the mid afternoon
If buying from "those" stores, no more than about 20-30 since I know they are pricey in my area. From a nursery, not more that 25-30. I say that because if it dies, you're not out 80 dollars.
And I would recommend any vanda hybrid since they all require about the same. Vanda species are a little different.
Watering and fertilizing is also important but I will put it up here since you missed it Heather
Water every day, to every other day during the summer. 1-2 times a week in the winter.
Fertilize with non urea fertilizer weakly...weekly. Or dilute the fertilizer, but fertilize more often.
Um...that's all I can think of right now.
